Why are you called “Rasta Taco”?

Rasta Taco is the brainchild of Mario “Maji” Malendez, who envisioned the concept of Rasta Taco while he was in Jamaica. Today, the word “Rasta” speaks of our corporate culture which is, in the language of the Rastafarians:

  •

“Irie”, meaning “acceptance, positive feelings and something good.”

  • “Upfulness”, meaning “helpful”.

  • “Overstanding”, which is a more positive term for “understanding”.
  • “Livication”, which is: Living + Dedication = Livication.

For better or for better, that’s who we strive to be.

We are in the research and development phase of offering tacos that are vegan and vegetarian. We do currently offer limited vegetarian taco catering entrees (grilled veggies, tofu and potato). We also provide a vegetarian bean option. Currently, we are developing other meat and dairy-free recipes for a possible launch of a new plant-based vegan taco catering business in 2015, tentatively called “Cali Carts”.
